Quickly hasten to a tavern to seek comrades in arms to help you in questing for fame and glory. Then kill them all and steal the loot when yon quest is ended.
go to tavern and look for comrads like ezekial said but skip the killing part. the ‘comrades’probably would be stronger than you at this point and you don’t want to be known as a team-killer right in the beginning…

go inside the shop and kill the owner (if a guy) or seduce the owner (if a girl) and then once he/she is dead/tired and can’t take anymore, steal/ask for their money as a reward for your kill/deed. then either steal/buy the wand/staff

Go to a magic shop, browse the spellbooks until I find something good. Talk the owner into getting a book from the back, pocket the spellbook that caught my eye. When the owner comes back, I act ditzy and say I forgot my money and leave.
